A city-prep sprint before a major AI gathering

With the India Artificial Intelligence (AI) Impact Summit 2026 scheduled in New Delhi from 16 to 20 February 2026, the Delhi government has moved to rapidly upgrade prominent junctions and public spaces. Officials described the plan as time-bound, with a strong focus on lighting improvements, visual appeal and quick execution to present a polished capital for visiting delegations.

One of the first sites identified is a roundabout near the Hyatt Regency in southwest Delhi. The Public Works Department earmarked ₹22.78 lakh for work that includes decorative fountains, colour-changing LED lighting on the central island and additional bollard lights to reduce dark stretches for motorists and pedestrians.

Delegate routes, signage and safety fixes

The upgrades are part of a wider city push that also targets practical infrastructure issues. Along key corridors expected to be used by summit delegates, PWD teams are tasked with repairing potholes, fixing damaged footpaths and central verges, restoring missing signage and replacing broken grilles. Select locations are also slated for sculptures and additional fountains.

Bharat Mandapam is expected to host the summit’s main inauguration on 19 February, with bilateral meetings and side events planned across Delhi. The intent, officials indicated, is to align the city’s on-ground readiness with the summit’s national ambition—projecting Delhi as a capable host city for high-profile technology diplomacy.
