DHAKA: Bangladesh police are investigating the death of a young Hindu man who was burned to death after a fire broke out at a garage in Narsingdi, near Dhaka, where he had been sleeping at night.
The victim, identified as Chanchal Bhowmik, worked at the garage and was inside when the blaze started. Officials said the fire service forced open the shutter in an attempt to rescue him, but he could not be saved.
Narsingdi Police Superintendent Abdullah Al Faruque said CCTV footage collected from the area shows suspicious activity, including a person moving around near the scene. Investigators are examining whether the fire was caused by an external factor or an electrical fault.
The incident has triggered renewed discussion about the safety of minorities in Bangladesh, with Indian media highlighting a pattern of violence and intimidation in recent weeks.
