Kisan Mazdoor Morcha announces statewide protest in Punjab on August 31

The Kisan Mazdoor Morcha has announced a one-day statewide protest outside Deputy Commissioner offices in all 22 districts of Punjab on August 31, 2026. The organisation said the protest will raise demands concerning farmers, agricultural labourers, youth, land, water and employment.

Among the key demands are the procurement of crops at remunerative prices above the minimum support price (MSP), compensation and government jobs for families of farmers and labourers who died by suicide due to debt, and a long-term scientific policy on recurring floods, depletion of the water table, and rising air and water pollution.

Farm leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said the protest represents a broader struggle to protect Punjab’s water, land, agriculture, employment, rural economy and future. The research material does not provide further details on the specific compensation amounts or the proposed procurement mechanism.

The protest is expected to draw participation from farmers, labourers, youth and women from across Punjab. The Morcha has been mobilising support by installing flex boards in villages and organising gatherings to raise awareness about the planned action.
