Republic Day 2026: Delhi issues traffic curbs for Kartavya Path rehearsal; commuters advised to avoid central routes
With Republic Day celebrations nearing, Delhi Traffic Police announced short-duration restrictions around Kartavya Path and India Gate for the parade rehearsal. Officials urged commuters to plan ahead, follow diversions, and use alternative routes during the regulated window.
New Delhi prepared for Republic Day week with a fresh traffic advisory that places temporary restrictions in central Delhi for the parade rehearsal ahead of the main event on 26 January 2026. The Delhi Traffic Police said the rehearsal movement requires controlled traffic flows around Kartavya Path and the India Gate stretch so ceremonial contingents can move safely and on time.
According to the advisory, the rehearsal is scheduled on 24 January 2026 and the restrictions are enforced for a defined morning window. During this period, key junctions and stretches in the ceremonial zone face regulated entry, limited cross-traffic and diversions, depending on the rehearsal convoy’s movement from Vijay Chowk towards India Gate.
Authorities asked commuters to avoid non-essential travel through central Delhi during the restricted hours. Those who must travel were encouraged to start early, prefer alternative corridors and follow directions from traffic staff deployed at crossings and along the rehearsal route.
The advisory also reiterated the larger message for Republic Day week: plan routes in advance, stay updated on official notices and expect intermittent slowdowns near ceremonial venues. Officials said these measures are intended to reduce congestion, prevent last-mile gridlocks and ensure emergency access remains available.
The Republic Day parade itself is scheduled for 26 January 2026 at Kartavya Path. As the date approaches, Delhi residents and visitors can expect more updates on entry points, parking arrangements and public transport guidance.
