Naidu urges AI-led governance push, calls for ‘technology-driven decision-making’ across departments

VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has asked officials to accelerate technology-driven governance and widen the use of artificial intelligence in day-to-day administration, arguing that data-led decisions can improve service delivery while reducing pressure on field staff.

During a departmental review, Naidu urged teams to adopt AI-enabled analytics and decision-support tools to resolve citizen issues faster and make governance more predictable. He also pushed for structured capacity-building, with an emphasis on training staff so that digital systems are used consistently across the state.

A key message from the review was scale: the chief minister indicated that AI should not remain limited to pilots or isolated dashboards. Instead, departments were asked to embed digital workflows into routine operations—tracking performance, identifying bottlenecks and ensuring that benefits reach citizens without repeated follow-ups.

Officials highlighted that hundreds of services are already being offered through a WhatsApp-based governance platform, and the meeting reviewed how such channels can be expanded to reduce friction in accessing government support. The administration also discussed monitoring mechanisms, including audits, to measure outcomes rather than activity.

The state’s push comes as governments across India debate how to deploy AI responsibly in public services while maintaining transparency and accountability. Naidu’s pitch focuses on efficiency and faster grievance handling, while signalling that the bureaucracy will be expected to adapt through training and measurable targets.
